Building software, not writing code

I really liked this podcast on the Pragmatic Engineer with Gergely Orosz and Steve Yeggie, specifically the point about not writing code but building software. My work has changed significantly over the last couple of months. LLMs have enabled me to bring projects that I've always wanted into existence that I just would not have had the time for personally or the money for with a team. I build in between meetings. I set tasks off during my morning and evening dog walk. I build when I am writing plans and strategies.

I recognise that there are a lot of people angry at the existence of LLMs, or can't get what they need out of them and get frustrated that they are not one-shotting everything, and yet, for me I've seen huge benefits.

I suppose we will see how this plays out, but just like how spreadsheets opened up a world of computing non-programmer's and heaps of Google's processes are based around them, these tools will do the same.
